Planting

One of the most important steps in forestry is to ensure adequate regeneration. Regeneration is the process by which a new stand of trees develops. Regeneration can happen Naturally or Artificially, within an existing stand or an open field. Natural regeneration happens when seed from nearby trees falls to the ground and germinates or when sprouts develop from the root system of existing deciduous trees. Artificial regeneration involves establishing a new crop of trees by planting seeds or seedlings. Each method has distinct advantages and disadvantages and should be reviewed long before conducting a harvest. Regardless of which method is used, there are steps that can be taken to improve your success.
